Resolve “NTLDR is missing” error at system starup
If the NTLDR becomes damaged, you may get an error message…
“NTLDR is missing” when you start your computer.
After this error message, you will be prompted to restart your computer at which the same error will be displayed again.
This effectively prevents you from being able to access Windows at all. In most cases, you will not even be able to boot into safe mode.
Here are some steps you can take to fix the problem:
- Insert the Windows XP bootable CD into the computer.
- When prompted to press any key to boot from the CD, press any key.
- After Files Loading, once in the Windows XP setup menu, press the “R” key to repair Windows.
- Copy the below two files to the root directory of the primary hard disk. We have to copy these two files from the CD-ROM drive letter “X”. ( Change “X” to the drive letter of your CD Drive)
copy x:\i386\ntldr c:\
copy x:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\
copy x:\i386\ntdetect.com c:\
- Once both of these files have been successfully copied, remove the CD from the computer and reboot
- Your System will boot normally this time.
